Bruder tractors at a glance

All farm tractors by Bruder are 1:16 scale, so they match each other and Bruder's trailers. The difference is size: the compact tractors are about 25 cm long, the large tractors of the 3000 series around 35 cm, and the 4000 series models and the crawler tractor 45 to 50 cm. On top of that there is Roadmax, a separate range for children under 3.

Nearly all Bruder tractors share the same basics: a steerable pendulum front axle for rough ground, a removable front weight and an extra steering rod that the child pushes through the sunroof onto the steering wheel. Bruder rates most models from 3 years and the largest from 4 years. All Bruder tractors are under Tractors.

All Bruder tractors in this guide are 1:16 scale.

Compact Bruder tractors: about 25 cm

According to Bruder, the Fendt Vario 211 is 25.5 cm long, the John Deere 5115 M 26 cm, the New Holland T5.120 24.2 cm and the Claas Nectis 267 F 25.2 cm. Bruder rates all four from 3 years. The Fendt Vario 211 and the Claas Nectis have front and rear couplings and a mount for a front loader.

These tractors are smaller and lighter than the large models, around 500 g against just over 1 kg. Bruder describes the John Deere 5115 M as nimble and suited to tight spaces such as the bworld machine shed. A front loader for it is sold separately (item 02319).

Large Bruder tractors: the 3000 series

Bruder says its 3000 series of large tractors has existed since autumn 2004. The John Deere 7R 350 is 36 cm long, the Fendt 936 Vario, Claas Axion 950 and Case IH Optum 300 CVX 34.5 cm each, and the Deutz-Fahr 8280 TTV 35.7 cm. They have a glazed cab, an opening bonnet and a height-adjustable hitch. On the John Deere 7R 350, Claas Axion, Case IH and Deutz-Fahr the doors open too. The Axion, Case IH and Deutz-Fahr have removable wheels. Bruder rates these models from 3 years.

The odd one out is the Claas Xerion 5000: 42 cm long, with four equal-sized wheels, four-wheel steering, a cab that turns 180° and crab steering, where the wheels run offset. Bruder rates it from 4 years.

3000 series

The largest: 4000 series and crawler

The Fendt 1050 Vario is the first model of Bruder's 4000 series. Bruder gives 45.6 cm in length and almost 20 cm in width, with removable wheels, opening doors and a new front mount for accessories. According to Bruder, every trailer of its Pro Series fits the height-adjustable rear hitch.

Larger still is the John Deere 9620RX with track belts: 50 cm long and just over 2 kg, with four track units and articulated steering like the real machine. Bruder rates both models from 4 years.

With a front loader or without?

Many Bruder tractors also come as a set with a front loader. The John Deere 7R 350 with frontloader is 42.5 cm long with the loader, the John Deere 6920 with frontloader 38.5 cm. On the John Deere 6920 you take off the front weight and slot the loader on.

If you already have a 3000 series tractor, you can add the front loader for the 3000 series (item 03333). Bruder says it slots on without removing the front weight, and the grab comes off separately. It fits every 3000 series tractor except the Claas Xerion 5000.

For children under 3: Bruder Roadmax

The regular Bruder tractors carry the warning that they are not suitable for children under 36 months because of small parts. For younger children Bruder has the Roadmax range. The Roadmax tractor with frontloader is meant for children under 3 according to Bruder, 42 cm long, with large treaded tyres and a big front loader for the sandpit.

The Roadmax tractor with frontloader and rear tipper comes as a set of 79.5 cm. More toys for the youngest are under 2 to 3 years.

How to choose

For a 3-year-old who mostly plays indoors, a compact tractor of about 25 cm is easy to handle. If the tractor also goes into the sandpit or pulls big trailers, a large 3000 series tractor is the usual choice. From 4 years the Fendt 1050 Vario and the John Deere 9620RX come into play. If the child is younger than 3, pick Roadmax.

Look at what is already there. Bruder writes that all its farm trailers fit the large tractors, and nearly all implements fit the compact ones. Matching trailers and implements are in the same 1:16 scale. Still choosing between Bruder and Siku? Read our guide Bruder or Siku?.
