In short
FarmToyDeals orders products and prices by fixed rules that apply to everyone. Nobody can buy a higher place: brands and shops do not pay for their position in a list.
Every visitor sees the same order. We do not use personal data or pages you visited before to change it.
Categories, brands and tractor brands: ‘Relevance’
This is the default order. There are three rules, in order of weight. A later rule only counts when the one before makes no difference:
- Products for which the manufacturer publishes a recommended price come first.
- Among those, models with a known tractor brand (such as John Deere or Claas) come first.
- Among those, products are listed alphabetically (A–Z) by product name.
Popularity, sales and clicks play no part in this order. Filtering by brand or tractor brand only changes which products you see, not their order.
Choosing another order
With ‘Sort by’ you can choose a different order:
- ‘Price: low to high’ and ‘Price: high to low’: by the lowest current shop price of any of its versions (per version the top offer of its shop list that is not sold out); this is the price shown with the product in the list. Without a current shop offer, the lowest recommended price the manufacturer publishes for any of its versions counts instead, and the list then says so. Products without a price come last; equal prices are listed A–Z.
- ‘Popular’: what the most different visitors viewed over the past weeks. A click through to a shop counts twice as much as a visit, and recent days weigh more: each week counts half as much as the week after it. We count anonymously and without cookies (see the privacy statement). Products we know nothing about yet follow in the ‘Relevance’ order. Payments and commission play no part.
- ‘Newest in the catalogue’: what was added to FarmToyDeals most recently comes first. This says nothing about when a product came onto the market.
- ‘Name (A–Z)’: alphabetically by product name.
Search
Your words are searched in the name, brand, tractor brand, category and article number, and are understood in other languages too (‘tractor’, ‘Traktor’ and ‘tracteur’ all find tractors). A product must match all your words. The order, by weight:
- Products whose name, brand or article number is exactly your search.
- Products of a brand, tractor brand or model you name.
- Products in the category your word names (for ‘cow’: farm animals).
- Other products with all your words; the better the match, especially in the name, the higher.
- Products that only resemble what you typed (after a typo).
At an equal place, products with a photo, a recommended price and a known tractor brand come first, then A–Z. When your word finds nothing, we show the results for the closest word and say so.
Shop prices on a product page
For each article we only show shops that sell exactly that article (recognised by its EAN code or the manufacturer’s article number). The order, again in order of weight:
- Shops that do not have the product in stock come last.
- Shops that do not state their shipping costs come after shops whose total price we know.
- Among those, the lowest total price comes first: the price including VAT plus shipping.
- On an equal total price, the price we checked most recently comes first.
A price we have not been able to check for more than 48 hours is not shown. Every price says when we last checked it. The manufacturer’s recommended price is shown separately, as ‘Recommended price’, and is never a shop offer.
Advertising and commission
There are no paid placements on FarmToyDeals at the moment. If there are in future, every paid placement will be clearly marked ‘Advertisement’, with who paid for it when we know. An advertisement is kept apart from the normal order and never changes it.
FarmToyDeals may receive a commission through links to shops when you buy something. That commission plays no part in the order: a shop that pays more is not listed higher.
Price drops
When we say a price has dropped, we always compare it with the lowest price of the same shop in the 30 days before the new price began. If we do not know all of those 30 days, we do not report a price drop. A ‘was’ price stated by the shop itself, or the manufacturer’s price, is never used for this.
Trending now
The ‘Trending now’ row on the home page and in categories shows products that clearly more different visitors viewed in the last 7 days than the 4 weeks before would lead us to expect. A product needs at least 5 visitors a week to qualify, and the row only appears when at least 4 products do. Payments and commission play no part here either.
